Short on time but want to sleep in a yurt? This easy overnight trip takes you from Bishkek over the Kalmak-Ashuu pass to Song-Kul, a large alpine lake at 3,016 m surrounded by protected pastures. It’s ideal for eco tourism: no buildings, no power lines, just yurt camps, horses and sky.
The lake is usually frozen from late September until late May, so this trip runs in summer only. In July and August the shore fills with shepherd families and their herds.

Day 1 Bishkek to Song-Kul
Bishkek → Kochkor → Song-Kul
Early start from Bishkek through the Boom gorge to Kochkor for lunch, then up the Kalmak-Ashuu pass to the lake. Afternoon free to walk or ride. Dinner and night in the yurt camp.

Day 2 Song-Kul to Bishkek
Song-Kul → Bishkek
Sunrise over the lake, breakfast with the family and a final walk on the shore before driving back to Bishkek (arrive around 6 pm).
