Osh
The 3,000-year-old "southern capital", built around the sacred Sulaiman-Too mountain.
Osh is the second-largest city of Kyrgyzstan and one of the oldest in Central Asia — over 3,000 years old. It sits on the edge of the Fergana Valley, surrounded on three sides by mountains, with the sacred Sulaiman-Too rock rising right in the centre.
Highlights
- Sulaiman-Too, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with a cave museum and a 16th-century mosque on its ridge.
- Jayma Bazaar, one of the largest and liveliest markets on the old Silk Road.
- Uzbek, Kyrgyz and Tajik food side by side — try the Osh plov.
Osh is the start of the Pamir Highway and our trips to Arslanbob and Sary-Chelek.
