Kel-Suu Lake
A remote turquoise lake in a sheer-walled gorge near the Chinese border.
Kel-Suu, hidden in the At-Bashy mountains of Naryn, is one of the most dramatic sights in Kyrgyzstan: a long ribbon of turquoise water squeezed between vertical rock walls. It’s remote — a border permit is required, the last part is a hike or horse ride, and the lake level changes through the season.
The reward is real solitude, superb photography and nights in a herders’ yurt camp at the edge of the world. We arrange permits at least 10 days in advance.
